It's Tuesday, Where Are You?

Today I'm on the Silk Road. I've just left one part of China and am now visiting a monastery in Tibet. My plan is to travel over 7,000 miles following the trail of the Silk Road. It is fascinating to follow this ancient trade route that not only allowed the exchange of goods, but also the exchange of ideas. (Shadow of the Silk Road A travelogue by Colin Thubron)

It's Tuesday, Where Are You?

Today I'm in Philadelphia following lawyer Victor Carl as he finally gets what he wants ... at least he thinks so right now! Victor has always been on the outside looking in and is now getting a taste of working for a well known lawyer at a posh law firm with clients who have "names." We'll see if Victor has really gotten on the inside track or if this will all backfire on him. (Hostile Witness by William Lashner)

It's Tuesday, Where Are You?

Today I'm in Japan following various people as they discover the love they share without knowing. This loosely connected set of stories is filled with longing and seeking and shows just how fragile love can be. (The Love We Share Without Knowing by Christopher Barzak)

This was a wonderful book recommendation from Nymeth. Thanks Nymeth!

It's Tuesday, Where Are You?

I haven't moved far from where I was last week. It is the 1800s and I am in the Indian Ocean on a ship named Ibis. Despite the caste system, the saying is true that "we're all in the same boat." (Sea of Poppies by Amitav Ghosh)

I will soon be embarking on a trip to the Southwest United States. (The Road from La Cueva by Sheila Ortego)

It's Tuesday, Where Are You?

Today I am in 1880s India and the Ibis has just docked in Calcutta. The Ibis is a former slaver (slave ship) that is to be refurbished as a transport for opium to China. I've just had to walk through an opium manufacturing facility and was sickened by much of what I saw. I don't know what the future holds, but I suspect it will have something to do with a vision I had of a large two-masted schooner. (Sea of Poppies by Amitav Ghosh)

It's Tuesday, Where Are You?

I just left Oxfordshire where I'd been spending most weekends with old college friends at a large country manor. The emotional dynamics got very disturbing and I really wanted to ease myself out of this unhealthy situation. I was working toward this end during a very Gatsby-esque party, but once again got drawn back into the group drama. When the end came, I wasn't sure if it was tragic or hopeful. It's Tuesday, Where Are You?

I'm in Chicago waiting for my husband to come back from whenever he went to this time. He occasionally disappears into either the past or future, and all I can do is wait for him to return. I worry about him when this happens and always wonder if he will come back. (The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger)

It's Tuesday, Where Are You?

I'm in a graveyard. My Mom and Dad are ghosts and my guardian is ... well ... I don't want to spoil the fun, so let's just say he is neither alive nor dead. I've just escaped the ghouls, with the help of what you would call a werewolf. They wanted to change me into a ghoul too! Can you imagine that? It gives me shivers just remembering that episode. I wonder if I'll ever get to live among the living? (The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman)

It's Tuesday, Where Are You?

Today I've just left the burn ward and must learn to take care of myself. I do have the help of Marianne Engel. She may be schizophrenic or manic/depressive or maybe even both. I think of this possibility because she believes our relationship goes back centuries into the past. Did I mention that she also sculpts gargoyles, or grotesques, and tells me stories of strong and enduring love? (The Gargoyle by Andrew Davidson)

It's Tuesday, Where Are You?

I just left Sedona, Arizona where I was involved in solving yet another murder. My online activities got me into a dangerous situation by revealing too much of my identity. (Cruel Intent by J.A. Jance)

I'm now in Regency England and have just married my Mr. Darcy. I'm not sure what is in store for me yet, but I'm sure it will involve much verbal repartee. (Pride & Prescience by Carrie Bebris)

It's Tuesday, Where Are You?

Today I'm in Sarajevo and I try to stay away from sniper fire and go about my daily business. A cellist has been playing the same piece of music every day at four o'clock in the afternoon. His playing brings us all hope and transports us to a Sarajevo that is not at war. (The Cellist of Sarajevo by Steven Galloway)

I continue to follow Tony Hillerman around as he reveals his life. (Seldom Disappointed by Tony Hillerman)

It's Tuesday, Where are You?

My recent adventures have taken me from Wyoming to Philadelphia as I try to solve crimes. It's been either cold and snowy or cold and rainy so far. (The Sheriff Walt Longmire mysteries Cold Dish, Death Without Company, and Kindness Goes Unpunished by Craig Johnson)

I've just entered the world of Tony Hillerman as I follow him from childhood to authorhood. (Seldom Disappointed: A Memoir by Tony Hillerman)

It's Tuesday, Where are You?

I just got back from October Country in Illinois where I wrote the history of a spook family (From the Dust Returned by Ray Bradbury). Today I'm in Japan. I've been to the airport twice so far; once to send my brother off on a year long trip to the United States and again to pick him up as he returns home to Japan. I'm confused about his relationships with both Sarah and Mari. I hope to determine where the author is taking my storyline soon! (Asleep by Banana Yoshimoto)

It's Tuesday, Where are you?

I just got out of prison ... No! Not really! It's just a reading meme! Anyway ... I just got out of prison and my wife has died and this very odd man has offered me a job. I'm not sure what this job entails yet, but some very strange "people" keep showing up and bizarre things keep happening to me. (American Gods by Neil Gaiman)

I've also, apparently, changed sexes. Last time I looked I had a husband!

It's Tuesday, Where are you?

Today I'm in Paris at the 1889 World Exposition. I've become suspicious that two seemingly accidental deaths are not what they seem. Two bee sting deaths? Will there be more? I'm just a bookseller, but I'm going to try and solve these murders. (Murder on the Eiffel Tower by Claude Izner)

It's Tuesday, Where are you?

Today I'm in Dorset and I'm trying to adjust to a move from NYC to the countryside in England. I've also got to adjust to my new stepfather and two stepbrothers. It's a lot of adjusting for a 13-year old girl. I've also found that the "manor" (i.e. huge broken down old house) is haunted and I've had a conversation with an ugly little boggart and with a pretty ghost named Tamsin. Oh ... and my cat, Mr. Cat, has met a nice ghost lady cat. I wonder how that will work out. (Tamsin by Peter S. Beagle)

It's Wednesday, Where am I?

I'm obviously a day behind! This weekly meme is usually titled, "It's Tuesday, Where are you?" and is hosted by raidergirl3. I've got a great excuse for being behind. It's called "my job that pays me money so I can pay my bills." OK ... now that I've got my excuses out of the way ...

I just left the suburbs of Tokyo. Since I've been hanging around the "underbelly of Japanese society," I'm a little depressed. It has been a very noir experience. (Out by Natsuo Kirino)

I'm about to enter the world of Dante scholars who are trying to solve a murder in Boston in 1865. (The Dante Club by Matthew Pearl)

It's Tuesday, Where are you?

I just left the Shetland Islands off the northeast coast of Scotland where Inspector Perez has just solved a triple homicide. This involved some knowledge of the few residents of Biddista and their histories. It also involved some skill at communicating with the rather cloistered atmosphere one encounters in a very small village. I can't wait to go back and see what is happening in the Shetland Islands in future. Quite exciting for such a small place. (White Nights by Ann Cleeves)

I'm on my way to a suburb of Tokyo where I expect to encounter a brutal murder and "the violent underbelly of Japanese society." (Out by Natsuo Kirino)

It's Tuesday, Where are you?

Today I'm in Seattle with Detective J.P. Beaumont as he tries to solve the murder of a 5-year old girl who appears to have belonged to a cult. Beau has his own demons that plague him as he tries to solve his case, so this should get interesting quickly. (Until Proven Guilty by J.A. Jance)

It's Tuesday, Where are you?

Today my reading is taking me to London where Mr. Norrell is trying to bring magic back to England. I didn't know that fairies existed, but apparently they do and one of them has just aided in bringing a young lady back to life. Of course, a price will be extracted for this service. I'm getting the impression that you should be very careful when dealing with fairies. I think I might still be in the same place next week since the book is over 800 pages.
