It's Tuesday, Where Are You?
Today I am in 1880s India and the Ibis has just docked in Calcutta. The Ibis is a former slaver (slave ship) that is to be refurbished as a transport for opium to China. I've just had to walk through an opium manufacturing facility and was sickened by much of what I saw. I don't know what the future holds, but I suspect it will have something to do with a vision I had of a large two-masted schooner. (Sea of Poppies by Amitav Ghosh)

This is on my wishlist - I'll be back to find out what you think!
ReplyDeleteThat book was short listed for the Booker - I'd like to read it. I didn't really know what it was about - looks good.
ReplyDeletefleurfisher: The story ambles along right now, which seems appropriate. The author is quite the writer and I'm enjoying his prose.
ReplyDeleteraidergirl3: So far I'm enjoying it. It isn't a fast read, but then I've not felt any compulsion to hurry it up either!
This book is going on my wish list!
ReplyDeleteThank-you for visiting my book blog. I will put you on "followers"
Oooooh! This sounds really good, Terri! I'm in Texas (Texas by Michener) and Seattle during WWII (Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet). Usually I don't double dip, but Texas will probably take me a good two months to read. I'd gladly trade for this book!
ReplyDeleteMadeleine: I'm following you too!
ReplyDeleteTrish: I've been curious about Hotel on the Corner ... and will be interested in your thoughts. I still haven't read anything by Michener!
LOL--my mention of a trade was mostly in jest. :) I couldn't imagine anyone wanting to trade anything for my 20 pound Texas book! OK, it isn't really 20 pounds, but it sure feels like it.
ReplyDeleteTrish: A Texas size book about Texas ;o)
