The Scriptwriter

Cock crows, 6 a.m.
Tell me please, what I am.
Am I angry?
Am I sad?
Tell me please, I might be glad!

An open book I seem to be,
Blank pages ... yeah that's me.
Today I lie?
Today deceive?
Write my script ... what you believe.

What I am? WHAT I AM??
You don't know what I am.
You can't see,
Too close to me,
You only guess.
Just let me be.

Could it be that I am you?
Project on me the things you do?
Remove the sound,
Remove the screen,
And you might find I've never been.

What I am? WHAT I AM??
Don't tell me what I am.
You can't see,
Too close to me,
You only guess.
Just let me be.

  1. Okay, is someone having Identy problems? Hmm...

Oh, and thanks for stopping by the writing blog, Cirocco's Revenge is a proposed SF-TV series that my partner (writing) and I are trying to get off the ground.

  2. I just watch people a lot ... and write a lot.

  3. This makes me think of how people tend to project onto my hubby what they think he is like. He is so introverted that he doesn't give many clear signals. People see one little bit and fill in a whole lot. They are almost NEVER correct. I actually get a big kick out of it. It is kind of like watching a blindfolded child swing at a pinata.

  4. Mary, You win the prize! I've had a variety of people read this over time and they almost invariably think it is something it is not. The piece is really a commentary on the "scriptwriters" out there. It is written from a point of strength -- the "I" knows exactly who s/he is. Of course one could play around with the idea of "I" being a fictional character talking back to the writer. Hmmm....

I do so love to play with the pieces I write!

  5. Since one can't hear me reading this, I added some formatting to the text to help with emphasis and meaning. Let me know if this indeed helps. See my previous comment for perspective. -Terri
