Running ...

Some of you know I've been working on weight loss and fitness. I'm doing pretty well and am almost at my goal weight! One component of this journey is working my way from walking to running. I'm happy to say that my running intervals are getting longer and I actually crave the run. With that said, I will leave you with this lest I take myself too seriously (found via Natalie at Coffee and a Book Chick):

  1. Natalie and I were just talking about jogging the other day on Twitter. I had to stop jogging after an injury last year and really didn't miss it.

But I got super ticked off after a rather annoying doctor's visit (about said injury) and immediately went and ran. It felt so good, and honestly, as much as I hate it while I'm doing it, I feel amazing when I'm finished.

Glad it's been something you enjoy, too, and congrats on meeting your weight loss goal!

  2. Ahahahaha, when I saw that picture today, I couldn't stop laughing (like, the "giggle/snort kind"); I just KNOW that's how I actually look when I run, I just know it :) And I'm doubly glad - one, that you loved the picture, too AND that you're doing so fantastic with your goals! Running has really resonated with me lately, and I really hope I don't give up.

I just started another blog this week and I'm spending a little more time over there lately, and I have plans to spend even more time. I NEED to lose weight, I NEED to relieve stress, so I CANNOT stop running. I have to keep going!

And Jenn (The Picky Girl) above and I tweeted the other day and it was such a good reminder to read about other bookish folks that enjoy this and adding running into our "life changes." I love it!

Oh, gawd, I'm giggling again looking at that picture.

  4. Jenn and Natalie: I was surprised that I don't really hate it while doing it. Not always super excited about it beforehand, but luckily I crave the "after I'm done feeling" enough that it motivates me! I got started because I was SO angry about something one day that the only thing I could think was "RUN." Apparently needed to burn off adrenaline. Felt so good afterwards that I really wanted to do it again.

Natalie: I'm looking forward to checking out your new blog! I'm glad to have the link here :)

  6. The "after I'm done" feeling is exactly what is so addicting!

Your reasons for starting to run are EXACTLY what I went through just a few weeks ago! It was a recent post at Coffee and a Book Chick and then I also decided to have it as my first post on This Chick Will Run. I was so overwhelmed with work one day that I just RAN. It was exhilarating!

  7. Congratulations, Terri! I'm sure you'll reach your goal. This post is such a good motivator... I'm very close to signing up for a couch to 5K type program called No Boundaries. Missed the summer session, but want to give it a try this fall. LOVE the picture, too - very funny!

  8. Yeah, that's what I look like too ... I started running back in February and been running on-off since but these last couple of weeks, I've begun to notice a huge difference. I'm feeling much better - both physically and mentally. I'm starting to look forward to my runs and I'm so proud of myself when I make it out there. I so hope I can continue this - I want to be a runner and not just a plodder ;-) ... and of course I've toyed about making a running blog too ... haven't done it yet though but maybe ... Maybe it will be a way to keep me running?

  9. Well, good for you! Someone has to do it! ;) Perhaps you might like Murakami's book What I Talk About When I Talk About Running which I hear is very good. As for me, the best I can do is cycle, and even now when I usually ride for miles I'm not doing so well. It's so very hot here in Illinois that all I can seem to muster up these days is a fine whine. So, hooray for you!
