Once Upon a Time: Vlog!

I thought I'd vlog my reading pile this year for Carl V.'s Once Upon a Time reading challenge.

The Once Upon a Time reading challenge is a "journey together into the magical lands of fantasy, fairy tales, folklore and mythology" and runs from March 21st through June 20th. I love Carl's rules for the challenge:

Rule #1: Have fun.
Rule #2: Have fun.
Rule #3: Don’t keep the fun to yourself, share it with us, please!
Rule #4: Do not be put off by the word “challenge”.

There are several levels at which to participate, so join the one that works for you. I will be taking The Journey. This means that I will be commiting to read at least one book from the four categories (fantasy, fairy tales, folklore, mythology).

Hope to see you there!

  1. A vlog was a fun idea. I am really not crazy about the covers for those Robin McKinley books, but maybe they look better close up?

Twilight of Avalon was REALLY good. You are correct, there is one more book, and then the third book will be out this fall. Enjoy!

  2. Sounds like a fun challenge. I will cheer from afar on this one - I'd love to join, but I have been failing miserably on my challenges thus far this year, so I suspect I'd be a fairly poor contributor to this one as well. :) I love your vlog! I did one a month or so ago and was really nervous about it, but ended up enjoying and participating in that format. Looking forward to more of your vlogs!

  3. Boy howdy you are ambitious! I know you said you weren't going to read them all, but wow! Even half of them would keep one busy for a year! Nice sound with your new Yeti and the video looks good too, by the way! I'll be curious to find out what you learn about the syncing problem in the middle.

  4. Kailana: You are right about the McKinley covers. Rose Daughter is slightly better when you can see it "live," but still nothing special. Glad to hear you liked Twilight of Avalon. I have a feeling I'm going to like it a lot too!

Coffee: The only two challenges I seem to do anymore are RIP and this one. Mostly because I can get away with reading only one book for it. I'm not very good at participating these days. Sigh. I will head over to your blog to see your vlog!

Robin: Lol! I'm ambitious at creating lists. Glad you liked it. I'll let you know if I find out how to deal with syncing issues.

Memory: I'm planning on making more vlogs. It takes up a fair amount of time though, so I don't get to it very often. I enjoy seeing vlogs of other book bloggers too. Kinda fun to actually see the people we chat with all the time!

  5. *gestures at "Dark Lord of Derkholm" cover* It's a griffin, or however you prefer to spell it.

I squeed when you mentioned you were reading Diana Wynne Jones for OuaT, but then I got sad again because eventually there will be no more new books. T-T

You put the stress in "Shannara" in a different spot than I do, though, so that made me a little happier again because small things like that make me happy. ^-^ (Sorry, I'm a little all over the place. I feel like I'm whirlwind commenting on people's blogs and I know that's not true.) Also, your vlogs are so much cooler than mine. XD

I hope you'll enjoy all the books! (Or at least the ones you'll get to right now.)

And as Kailana already said, you're right about Anna's Trystan & Isolde books. It's a trilogy with the last volume coming out later this year. (I would tell you it's amazing, but by now I'm horribly biased towards Anna so you may want to take that comment with a little grain of salt.) Not counting the novella-sized freebies she's offered, of course.

And such a fun idea to vlog about the pile like this! I hope you enjoyed creating it!

(Right! Let's try this commenting thing again WITHOUT OpenID. *grumbles at Blogger*)

  6. Shanra: Hi Shanra! I'm so happy you stopped by! LOL re pronunciation. I'm just winging it sometimes and have no idea how to pronounce certain words. This weeks Mailbox Monday vlog has several instances of me trying to say author last names without having looked them up! I am having fun making little videos. I have to learn how to use my editing software for work and thought I'd have some fun while learning. If it becomes easy enough for me I'll probably be making vlogs more often.

  7. I'll be joining you in the Journey; it seems I never have time enough to delve as fully as I'd like into all the challenges/reading I want to do! Looking forward to your thoughts on what you read. Happy Spring!
