Book Review Lists and the Alphabet

Good heavens! I read a lot of book titles that begin with the letter "G"! I was just looking at my Book Reviews by Title and Book Reviews by Author lists and noticing where I might have gaps. (Does this make me weird?) I was a bit surprised at the super abundance of "G" titles.

Anyway, I need to read and review some "L," "U," and "Z" authors and some "Q," "X," and "Z" titles. Want to help me choose? Which have you read and liked?

Here are some of the books in my collection with "L," "U," and "Z" authors:

L
Madeleine L'Engle (multiple titles)
Margo Lanagan (Tender Morsels; I began this and got distracted by "life" so need to start over)
John Lanchester (Fragrant Harbor)
Stieg Larsson (Girl with the Dragon Tattoo)
Stephen Lawhead (Byzantium)
Harper Lee (To Kill a Mockingbird)
Gaston Leroux (Phantom of the Opera)
Kelly Link (Magic for Beginners)
Charles de Lint (multiple titles)
Lois Lowry (Gossamer)

U
Sigrid Undset (Kristin Lavransdatter)
John Updike (Too Far to Go - short stories)
Louise Ure (The Fault Tree)

Z
Ravi Zacharias (religion & philosophy)
Yevgeny Zamyatin (We)
Roger Zelazny (multiple titles SF/Fantasy)
Markus Zuzak (The Book Thief)

Here are some of the books in my collection with "Q," "X," and "Z" titles:

Q
Queen of the Night (J.A. Jance)
This is all I've got people. I'm short on Q's. Suggestions?

X
I have no X's! Suggestions?

Z
Zuleika Dobson (I've already read this, but never reviewed it so I could do a re-read.)
Suggestions?

  1. You can check out this A - Z Reading Challenge of 2009 site for some ideas. Once you choose the Author Letter or Title Letter then you have to click "here" to see the list. Hope it helps!

  2. L Authors: I haven't read the whole thing yet, but I recently began THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO by Stieg Larson, and I'm quite impressed so far. I've got a good feeling about this one.

Z Authors: THE BOOK THIEF is wonderful. Painful, and occasionally difficult to read, but wonderful.

Q Titles: THE QUEEN OF ATTOLIA by Megan Whalen Turner is awesome, but it's the second in a series.

Z Titles: I liked ZOE'S TALE by John Scalzi. It's technically the fourth book in his Old Man's War series, but it works as a standalone.

  3. Thoughts of Joy: Thank you for pointing me to these lists!

Memory: I've been staring at that Stieg Larsson book for absolute ages. That might be a very good choice from my stack o' books. I don't have Zoe's Tale but have wanted to read it; totally forgot about that one! Glad to hear it can work as a stand alone (though I do have Old Man's War -- somewhere). Thanks!

  5. If it makes you weird, it makes you no weirder than the rest of us. ^-~ I have an overabundance of S-sounds myself. (Works for me, I think it's a pretty and soothing sound. ^-~)

I only know a few books on that list (and checked and double checked to see if I had anything to add to the list of potentials, but all I've got are books I haven't read. Hm.)

I loved "To Kill a Mockingbird" when I read it and I've liked all the de Lint I've read so far, but this is where my knowledge of the books you list ends. I've heard of some of them, but not all.

  6. Thanks y'all! I'll definitely be reading The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo and The Book Thief and Zoe's Tale. At some point I know that I MUST read To Kill a Mockingbird.
