Friday Fill-Ins

1. Why do we have to sleep? (I could read more if I didn't need sleep.)

2. Taking a daily walk and drinking plenty of water are now habits.

3. I have a wry sense of humor.

4. I had never heard the phrase "putting on the dog" and it made me run to the nearest book of quotations to satisfy my curiosity.

5. Don't stay up too late on Sunday night the way I always do.

6. How was I to know I wouldn't mind getting older.

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to watching the series finale of Battlestar Galactica, tomorrow my plans include having a leisurely breakfast out with my husband and Sunday, I want to go to church and then come home and READ!

Join in the fun at Friday Fill-Ins.

  1. So, what does 'putting on the dog' mean, exactly? And did they do the ending right?

  2. That "sleep" thing soooo gets in the way of getting enough reading in. So does that "work" thing. :-)

    Have a great weekend!

  3. #6 is my favorite!

And not to highjack your post, but I stopped by to say that this is my first blogaversary and you rated an individual mention for being the one of my most frequent commenters on Rose City Reader.

  4. cj: Putting on the dog means 'to make a display of wealth or importance, especially by dressing stylishly and flashily'. It's similar in meaning to the later expression put on the ritz. Comes from American college slang during the 1860s.

I posted my "Friday" Fill-In on Thursday night (I got a little ahead of myself!), so I don't actually get to see the series finale until tonight. I can't wait!

  5. Lezlie: Oooooh yeah ... that work thing. Hmmm, maybe I'll get rid of the work thing and keep the sleep thing!

Rose City Reader: Happy Blogiversary! Thank you for the mention. I love visiting your blog :o)

  7. Sleep is a nuisance for me too. I don't get enough of it because I have stuff to do! I don't have nearly enough time for reading and blogging now. :) Have a great weekend!

  8. Terri, it's so fun that you played along, too! I liked reading your answers, and especially learning about "Puttint on the dog"...something many women in our town excel at! I tend to stay up tto late every night, and then I can't get up. I don't mind getting older either, except for some of the aches I'm noticing.

  9. Hi,
I think I saw you listed as a friend on LibraryThing -- I wondered if you might be willing to read/review my book, The Road From La Cueva. I just got a great review from Rudolfo Anaya (author of Bless Me Ultima) and there are many other wonderful reviews on the Amazon.com web site. Please let me know via:
