Whew!

I've just finished reading The Woman in White by Wilkie Collins and I'm convinced I should have joined the Chunkster Challenge! At 600+ pages, this one certainly qualifies.

I've got a little research and thinking to do before I write my review, but I will be posting one for this title.

I chose this title for our book club to read since I thought it would be good for discussion (it will), I had always wanted to read it, and it fit with the types of books we read in our book club. When I selected it, I realized that it would be somewhat challenging considering the year it was written (1860) and the conventions of Victorian/Gothic literature, but I had no idea that it was sooo long. I really didn't mean to subject anyone to a lengthy Victorian melodrama. Really. Honest. Think they'll forgive me?

Trivia: Did you know that Andrew Lloyd Webber made a musical out of this?? Read about it here or here.

  1. Didn't know about the musical. I checked amazon.com to see if they had samples of the songs, but no go. I really enjoyed the book. I'm not a good one to ask if you're book club will hate you. Seems like every book I present they hate. First it was Poisonwood Bible, then History of Love, and this month I'm doing The Book Thief. I absolutely loved all three, but not so with the rest of the group.

  3. I'm sure they'll forgive you--if they blame you at all. :-) I'm glad you finally finished it, Terri, and I look forward to reading your review.
