I was catching up on some magazine reading last night and came across a great article that I thought I'd share with the mystery lovers out there. The article is The Great Escape: Mystery Preview by Wilda W. Williams and is from the April 15, 2009 edition of Library Journal.
The mystery genre is apparently doing quite well. I was particularly intrigued by some of the reasons stated in the article for the current success of this market, especially the idea that in tough times we turn to mysteries. Subgenres within this category have slightly differing reasons for appealing, like:
Historical Mysteries: "[B]ecause it's comforting for readers buffeted by tough times to know that others have survived equally bumpy historical periods."
Espionage: "[B]logger Sarah Weinman tied the espionage renaissance to the current mood of uncertainty and cynicism."
Literary Mysteries: An inexpensive from of entertainment is the book club and literary mysteries appeal to many of these groups.
Included in the article is a fantastic list of possible reads. I encourage you to check out this article!

If this is a book blog ...
... then where are all the book reviews?????
Well, um, really good question. I'm still trying to catch up in all areas of life since my not so little "medical episode" last month. Still a bit tired and, since there are these people who pay me, I've had to ... you know ... prioritize them so they will keep paying me. Smile.
I do have a few partial reviews written (Sheila, yours is one of them!) but I need to turn them from garbled-disconnected-batches of words into something that will actually SAY SOMETHING.
Don't give up on me!

It's Tuesday, Where Are You?
Today I'm in Philadelphia following lawyer Victor Carl as he finally gets what he wants ... at least he thinks so right now! Victor has always been on the outside looking in and is now getting a taste of working for a well known lawyer at a posh law firm with clients who have "names." We'll see if Victor has really gotten on the inside track or if this will all backfire on him. (Hostile Witness by William Lashner)Join raidergirl3 at An Adventure in Reading and let her know where your reading is taking you this Tuesday.
