Why are people like that?

This is a post for the The Cynical Kitchen. If you didn't read it yet, get over there and read "The Problem with People" right away. You will be able to relate if you've ever been irritated by people!

I popped Blues For a Rotten Afternoon into my CD player after reading "The Problem with People", and the first song up was "Why are People Like That" by Junior Wells. This one is for you Cynical Kitchen:

They take your love and your money,
They take your sugar your honey,
They take you skinny or fat,
Why are people like that.

They take your house and your home,
They take the flesh from your bone,
They take the shirt off your back,
Why are people like that.

They take your phone and your clock,
Take everything that you've got,
They laugh behind your back,
Why are people like that.

They take your dog and your car,
They promise you'll be a star,
They break your heart and leave you flat,
Why are people like that.

I don't know why they act like that,
Why are people like that.

OK, so there was no mention in the song of inconsiderate and rude neighbors and surly teenage thugs, but the question still stands ... why are people like that?

This is my brain...

Your Brain's Pattern

Your mind is an incubator for good ideas, it just takes a while for them to develop.
But when you think of something, watch out!
Your thoughts tend to be huge, and they come on quickly - like an explosion.
You tend to be quiet around others, unless you're inspired by your next big idea.

Yes, I am indeed an incubator. I like to think and I need time for things to make the proper relational connections inside my head. I'm often not aware of an idea until it literally explodes into my conscious thinking where I refine the idea before sharing it with others. And yes, I am quiet around others. I get many of the ingredients for ideas simply by listening to other people or reading. Of course I'm not too quiet if I'm sharing one of my recently exploded ideas!

What is your brain pattern?

Cool Resource: National Archives Films

"Over 70 years ago, the National Archives was founded to preserve American historical documents, as well as the moments and events that could be saved in still photos, films, and audio recordings. Today the Archives is home to everything from rare historical footage (newsreels and government documentaries from the 1930s) to the 1969 moon landing. Now Google is launching a pilot program to digitize its video content and offer it to everyone in the world for free, and you can watch a growing selection on Google Video." - Dr. John Jaeger, Dallas Baptist University

For those of you that have slow online connections that don't buffer well but would still like to see some of these films, you can download both the Google video viewer and individual films to a flash drive and then view at your leisure. I was able to download these from my extremely fast connection at work since I'm too cheap to pay for a fast connection at home (yes, I still use dial-up).

Sleeping with Bread Monday: A Tale of Woe and Joy

The Woe

I received a frantic phone call from my Mother last week. She has been wintering in Arizona and was in the process of preparing for her cross country trip back to North Carolina when she received a call that her Mother (my 89 year old Grandmother) had been rushed to the hospital and was pretty much "bleeding out." Grandma has a chronic condition that requires much medical oversight and occasional blood transfusions. The doctors can not locate the precise location of the bleeders without exploratory surgery, and at 89 years of age they are hesitant to take this route.

My Mother immediately got in her RV and started driving across country, towing her car. She was blessed with incredibly good weather and traffic conditions the first day. The second and third days were spent driving in white out conditions, from April blizzards, and dodging tornadoes. Of course I was worried about the weather, but I was very concerned about her driving alone in a state of frantic worry.

"Hear my cry, O God; listen to my prayer. From the ends of the earth I call to you. I call as my heart grows faint; lead me to the rock that is higher than I."
Psams 61: 1,2

The Joy

My Grandmother will be going home from the hospital today. After 11 pints of blood, the doctors were in the process of preparing to do the exploratory surgery when the bleeding suddenly stopped. They don't know why the massive bleeding suddenly stopped. They have no explanation for why my Grandmother is up walking the hospital halls and eating lasagna dinners.

My Mother made it safely through the snow and winds without incident. When I talked to her several times during her trip she sounded unnaturally calm. There is no earthly explanation for her calm. She is not a calm person.

No earthly explanation.

"Always give thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ."
Ephesians 5:20
